Formula

decrease % = ((original − new) ÷ original) × 100

Example

A bill falls from $120 to $90. The drop is $30, and 30 ÷ 120 × 100 = 25%.

How decrease differs from increase

Decrease divides the difference by the original (larger) value, so the same absolute change produces a smaller percentage than the reverse journey would.
